Identify which discipline performed the service. Required on therapy codes (97xxx) when billed by a physician or under incident-to.
Key Modifiers
- GP: Services delivered under an outpatient Physical Therapy plan of care.
- GO: Services delivered under an outpatient Occupational Therapy plan of care.
- GN: Services delivered under an outpatient Speech-Language Pathology plan of care.
Usage Example
97110-GP: Therapeutic exercise provided by PT.97110-GN: Therapeutic exercise provided by SLP (if within scope).
Audit Risk
Using the wrong modifier is a common audit trigger. Ensure the provider’s license matches the modifier.
