CPT 99292 - Critical Care (Add-on)

Description & Explanation: The “add-on” code for critical care time beyond the first 74 minutes.

  • Usage: Use in addition to 99291.

  • Time: Each additional 30 minutes (must pass 15 mins into the next block).

    • 75 - 104 min = 99291 + 99292 x1

    • 105 - 134 min = 99291 + 99292 x2

  1. Prolonged Resuscitation: Physician spends 100 minutes total stabilizing a trauma patient with multiple bleeds and tension pneumothorax. Bill 99291 + 99292 (x1).

  2. Multi-System Failure: Physician spends 4 hours (240 mins) continuously managing a post-arrest patient. Bill 99291 + 99292 (x5).
