chole--doch-o-lith--iasis - gallstone obstructs the common bile duct (stone in the bile duct disease); choledocholithiasis (also called the common bile duct stone or CBD stone) is a condition characterized by the presence of one or many gallstones in the common bile duct. Painful right upper abdomen is the primary characteristic symptom. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) or, in a few cases, laparoscopic cholecystectomy are the possible treatments. - Primary choledocholithiasis: Stones which are formed directly within the biliary tree. - Secondary choledocholithiasis: Gallstones which get ejected from the gallbladder and lodged in the biliary tree.
